Above and Beyond for animated films.

Post by Cima »

5 Centimeters Per Second, a film which saw extremely limited release in North America, the video quality, beauty of the background art in the film made me sad the film never came out on anything but DVD in the United States. DVD didn't give it's beauty justice. Music was mostly string and piano combinations, it was beautiful to watch and listen to. The story was very sad in general, but it was told in such a suddle undramatic way to a point of brilliance, the fact a secondary character mid way into the film became the center of attention for about a 3rd of the movie was a nice touch seeing the main character primarly from another person's view point, actually that 2ndery character and her viewpoint is one of the saddest ends in the movie after her card in the film ends.

Hehe Steamboy, a not so highly rated film, but the quality in just about everything is top notch, one nice fact was one scene alone had over 1200 sound elements alone. lol Patrick Stewart voices one character in this movie, his first and only in a Asian film to my knowledge. Steam Punk fans will love this movie and it's attempt to make a world which advanced beyond what real history did when it comes to the use of steam. The machines are very creative in the film. Another side note, from concept to completion the movie took a complete decade to finish. Found the first part of the film in english amazingly on youtube. The movies only downside over all was it's very well dry story, it is basically your standard issue super hero movie if not sometimes a bit confusing story wise compared to some others, I guess they tried too hard to make a simple story complicated and failed at making it complicated but made it a tad "?" filled. Though it's recreation of late 19th Century England is great far better than any live action film at it actually since most have to use CGI to pull it off which always glashes with live actors/actresses. One of the english voice actors actually stated "it would of been easier fo rthem to make a contemperary film". lol
