error when putting edited maps into AMRTS

Hi

I may be on the wrong track here but here it goes. I take an RTS mp map like 2eight.x. I unpack it, edit objects.cfg and game.cfg, and add it to DR. I edit the map in DR Studio and save it. I repack the 2eight folder (recurse folders and all) and get back to a new 2eight.x. I add the new 2eight.x to my mp folder and to the mp folder on another PC on my LAN. I create a mission using figure8 (pretty sure that uses 2eight.x). When play is pushed the game starts to load then I get an error:

no world loaded - Invalid missions file [game.cfg]

I have tried this with several missions including 8ally (where I followed all instructions) and get the same error. I have set up both PC's identically. What am I missing?

Hi

Thanks for the info. worked perfectly... well almost perfectly. After correcting and packing, the terrain showed up as a wireframe when I got into the game.
I had put all the cfg files back to the "un-edited" state, converted the terrain.bmp file that DR studio created into a targa (terrain.tga) and deleted the terrain.bmp.
I also tried a few other things as well. I took all the files from the original unpacked 4crazed.x except the tga's and put them into the edited 4crazed folder before repacking just to make sure that there were no editing errors.
The edited terrain.tga plainly showed the map edits I had done with studio. When I ran the game and the "wireframe world" showed up, the edits were there but with no terrain textures/colors.
Are there tutorials about putting the edited "x" files back into AMRTS format or should reversing the conversion process work?
Lastly, is this the correct forum for this question

Hi

The world was Attic, an AMRTS world. The only maps I have edited in DR Studio came from AMRTS. I unpacked and edited the AMRTS maps into a form Studio would accept and this worked fine. I re-edited the maps, after tinkering in Studio, into a form I thought AMRTS would accept. Well AMRTS did indeed accept the map but with this strange side effect.
One step at a time. For now I'll only play with the AMRTS maps(no new maps) until I can edit a map and put it back into AMRTS working properly, with edits.
I should send this forum a donation. Where can I do that.

try going into terrain.blk in ur map with like a text editor, or even better a hex editor
search for pic and replace with tga
try that

Thanks Methuselah

You, Sniper and the other map pioneers must have nitpicked over these files to figure some of this out. I gotta thank all those guys. I might never have found the .pic references in terrain.blk
BTW the map works fine now. Next step, adding and changing resources, start up conditions and objects.
How easy is it to add a completely new map? This could be a modified map from AMRTS but as an addition to the mp folder so that it would show up in multiplayer. Are there other references that need to be taken into account to do this?

all u need to do is put the map in the mp folder and it will be included as a multiplayer folder
