Dark Reign 2 Add-on Maps

Post by TommyCD1 »

These maps are not new to the forums. However, this topic will gather these maps in one convenient place for download. The link between all these maps, besides being Dark Reign 2 maps, is that they are all made by Pandemic Studios: the developers of said game and Army Men RTS. Includes 12 Maps and a custom Ruleset.

2flea
====================

"Get ready for some insane two player action in the Sprawl! 2flea is a small and fast paced map with three different height levels and many resource pools. You must quickly expand your base, or die trying!"
Two player map. You have resource pools in both corners of your base to work with, and more can be found in between the bases on all three ground levels. The narrow pathways formed by the high walls make good spots to lay mines or wait in ambush. There is also a trench directly in front of your base which is both a good vantage point for snipers and choke point for choppers.

====================

"Blast through the front line and carry the fight to your enemy! The treacherous mountain passes make good choke points, but be careful of stretching your defenses too far. Remember, he who defends everything defends nothing."
Two player map. Both teams start of opposite sides of the center mountain, with additional resources being found in the two far corners. The mountain extends to both corners of the map, making good choke points for mines. There's lots of uneven terrain, but not much in the way of props, so plan carefully where you want to build, and be sure to defend both ends of your base.

2slimey
====================

"Sling some toxic sludge at your opponents! The bases are separated by a slimey, sludgy mess. Each base has regen resource pools above this slimey area - controlling these are key. There is also a 'safe' resource field behind each base. Be aware of the several chokepoints that can be traversed only with air units."
Two player map. Simple map with two entrances by land, and a third entrance by air. Your base has three different vantage points, two of which have some resources, which are good vantage points, but vulnerable to choppers. You can also use the long hallways to either plant mines, or build inside to reduce travel time. There are also some sludge beasts roaming around, but killing them yields nothing, you monster.

2snowpass
====================

"A mountain separates two player bases, with various small passes through it. Watch for attacks from both sides, as they are wide open with few chokepoints separating the two bases. This map has ample resource for huge battles that can run on for hours!"
Two player map. The large mountains in the center splits the map into four different pathways for approach. The valley entrances have a considerable stockpile of resources to choose from, but be sure you can defend yourself! The paths along the edges of the map also have some pools.

4bullseye
====================

"As the name implies, 4bullseye is laid out like a giant target, with concentric circles ringing a resource-rich center. Choke points abound through the curving passes, making a good base defense hard to crack. Lateral movement around the center, however, assures numerous ways to flank an over-extended foe."
Four player map. Players start with 2500 plastic and 1000 electricity. The high walls around make for long pathways, and the curvature of the map makes ambushes and mines very strong strategies. There's a very large resource pool in the middle if you truly need the income.

4guerilla
====================

"Use the foliage to your advantage, attacking from under tree cover to make a more difficult target. Also, there's a gigantic resource pool in the center. It's big enough for several refineries to fight over, so you'll need a large force to hold the whole thing. (Note: Deforestation is fun. Try firing a Sky Fortress at a cluster of trees.)"
Four player map. Each team starts with a large supply of finite resources and a smaller supply of infinite resources. The middle of the map contains a large stockpile of resources similar to 4bullseye. Everything in between is trees galore. Makes for good cover until they're destroyed. Try using a DumDum!

4squarepusher
====================

"Up to four players battle through a city perched over a bottomless chasm. Weave through the dark streets in search of your foe, but be wary: there are many ways for a sneaky enemy to infiltrate your lines and turn the tables on you!"
Four player map. Each team has two large resource supplies to the sides of them, with a very small infinite supply behind them. The map is one big choke point, with many small paths leading to the four bases, including very small paths that lead into a base's rear side!

6delta
====================

"6delta is loosely based around the delta that breaks up the Nile river into the Mediterranean in Egypt. 6 teams fight for control of the precious resources on the islands and flooded ground. The islands are all near shallow water, and thus can be accessed by ground units wading through the water. Boats also play a big role in 6delta, and should be used both defensively and offensively. Watch out on all sides - you won't get much protection from any angle."
Six player map. Not all of the water is pathable so you'll need to find the paths to attack the bases adjacent to you. While there are plenty of resources lying around, there is no hill in this map. Bases are also closer together than usual, so be ready to fight off early attacks with some towers. You can also try to get a vantage point for mortar men on top of the hills.

6shai_hulud
====================

"The Taelon must flow! Battle across the open desert for control of the precious Taelon. Few choke points exist on this map, so be on guard from attacks from all directions. Beware, as your opponents aren't the only danger you face. The mighty sandworms dwell near the Taelon fields, and they don't take kindly to intruders... Remember, he who controls the Taelon controls the universe!"
Six player map. The bases are arranged in a circular fashion. Starting areas have a little bit of resources out front, but the main stockpile is in back. There is plenty of space to move around and build in, even if it is rather treacherous. The ambient stockpiles between bases and in the hill are guarded by large sandworms. They're pretty slow, and have a low range biting attack, but they can dish out some serious hurt, able to kill any infantry units in one shot. (Except for Sarge of course...)

8moat
====================

"Set in the chaos of the Sprawls, 8moat is a map for up to eight teams. Each team starts on a high plateau with a field of regenerating Taelon. Public telepads provide speedy access to additional Taelon fields, as well as a commanding position in the center. Remember that telepads work both ways, so be sure to defend yourself from surprise attacks. The plateaus make excellent defensive positions, but don't get lulled into a false sense of security or the moat that surrounds your base may turn into the noose that hangs you."
Eight player map. Public teleports are around for easy navigation. The resources in your base are infinite, and the telepad in your base takes you to a larger stockpile. There no resources in the middle, but it is still a great position to hold for easy access to everyone's telepads. be sure to defend your base with towers too, since there's a way to climb up from the water. The computer players have some trouble navigating without the telepads...

8molecule
====================

"An 8-way symetrical map with a simple, fractal pattern. Use boats to hold the outer regions or focus on the massive regen pile in the center. With starting positions on both the outside and inside, this map is great for a 4-on-4 seige where the outer teams try to take out the inner teams before running out of resource."
Eight player map. The four bases on the outside have very defensible positions with only one entrance by land. The inside bases though have some more building room and infinite resources to draw from. The water ringing the map can be used by choppers for surprise attacks on the outside players. Very heavily designed for a 4v4 play session.

8spider
====================

"8spider was originally released in the Beta test and was the site of many a fierce battle. Each team starts in a sheltered valley with a field of regenerating Taelon. Outside the valleys are additional Taelon fields to either side of the valleys and a river channel that circles the center of the map. Although the water is too deep in some places for ground units to cross, there are many fords where they can snake across. The small islands in the river make good spots for new Refineries, but make sure you defend them from marauding enemy ships!"
Eight player map. Bases occupy steep slopes, making defense very difficult against projectile units, such as grenadiers. Although you have some infinite resources at home, you can easily find more in between bases and on the hill. Be careful in a team battle, since you only have the one unfavorable entrance to fight out of; a 2v1 will spell certain doom for anyone.

Spawn! Ruleset
====================

"What do you do when you're fresh out of rigs? You fight with whatcha got, that's what. In this new ruleset, "Spawn," new troops pour out of your temple in an endless cycle. As long as your temple columns exist, your army keeps growing. Beware though, as your rivals are gunning to destroy your temple and stamp you out. No rigs, no buildings, just a man-to-man struggle in the Sprawls!"
All resources have been removed and each team now has a temple to defend. The rules for the game are very simple. At one minute intervals you spawn in new units at your temple. You must use the continuously spawning forces to destroy all enemy temples. Each team starts the game with Sarge, Bullseye, and Shrap and the following squads spawn in every sixty seconds in a repeating fashion.
  1. 8 Grunts
  2. 3 Machine Gunners
  3. 4 Grenadiers
  4. 2 Half-Tracks
  5. 4 Medics
  6. 1 Tank
  7. 5 Bazooka Men
  8. 2 Snipers
  9. 2 Choppers
This ruleset can be played by selecting the following maps.
  • Cheeseburger Hill Spawn
  • Doubles Spawn
  • Take the 8-Train Spawn
  • s6city

I may not make the best maps, or be the best player, but I put a lot of time, effort, and care into my stuff. That counts for something, right? No.

Well, it turns out that the camera layer does not prevent choppers from diving into the abyss while flying over holes like I though it did. So instead of adding water and creating conflicts with blobs, I decided to return to the method of using blackened cells, which I feel gives of the same effect of the spaces in between walkways being endless chasms.

Link has been updated.
