v.3
v.2.5
- Purpose of modification
You may already be familiar with the weakness of default AI. New personalities of AI, which could be found on the forum, seems to be outdated in terms of playability — probably every experienced player could stand against an alliance of so called Advanced AIs. Advanced Mod solves the problem by suggesting a brand-new powerful AI, which is capable of controlling heroes, using airstrikes, placing mines, etc.
- Rebalancing the gameplay
The problem of original game is the slight imbalance of units. Some units considered more overpowered, some less. In order to deal with this flaw, a new unit limitation system has been introduced. Unit Limit has been increased to 100 on small or poor maps and to 150 on big or rich maps. Combat units like Grunt, Machinegunner, Sniper, Halftrack or Guardtower have got doubled Command Cost. More overpowered for their respective levels and desirable for spam units like Tank and DumDum have quadrupled their Command Cost. Same goes for Grenadiers, Bazooka-Men and Choppers, but with a lesser triple degree. So if for instance you would like to spam some kind of unit and at the same time you have got only 30 Command Costs left, you will have the following choice: 15 Grunts, 10 Grenadiers or 7 DumDums. Nevertheless some unpopular units like Mortar Men, Mines or Magnifying Glass won't get any benefit from this style of rebalancing. They required specific fixes. For now Mortar Men can deal damage against infantry and vehicles (however to use this feature you should manually target them). Mines, Gluebombs, and Thumbtacks no longer self destruct when discovered by Minesweeper. This also means they remain active until destroyed by being fired upon. Magnifying Glass can freeze units affected (like Gluebomb does) and also have got an added smoking effect. These upgrades as we believe will give a new breath to the old units.
- Improving the gameplay
Many innovations are provided by the mod. Here will be briefly discussed the following supplements: ammo and hero systems, new rulesets and units.- Ammo system
It could be said that it is being leftover from the pre-release version of the game. Now ammunition code has been activated and ammo system has been brought into the game. Each combat unit has its own stock of ammunition, which must be replenished in a timely manner. It displayed as a yellow bar above the unit. When a unit runs out of ammo, it can no longer fire. However it could replenish own ammunition in two ways: with help of Medics or by using Ammo Crates. This unusual system can lead to many new unique strategies and that will improve the gameplay.
- Hero system
What can be said about this game is that there is no random factor in the gameplay. Perhaps every 1x1 game based on Sarge, the only hero you have under your control. It's a shame that the multiplayer lacks such colorful characters like Bullseye, Scorch or Thick. Mod ehnance the gameplay by introduction of new hero sets. Each player could randomly start with a different set of heroes: Sarge + Hoover, Scorch + Riff + Shrap, Bullseye + Thick. The duels will become more unpredictable in a good sense.
- Rulesets
Rulesets are directly aimed at enhancing the gameplay experience. Default game had only 2 basic rulesets, named Protect HQ and King of the Hill. The mod suggests next five new rulesets. Most of them were borrowed from Dark Reign 2 game.- Assault!
Each player spawns with Blintz and has 60 minutes to get him to the temple in the center of map, which is heavily guarded by the Tans. The first who will get his Blintz to the temple will win the game.
- Blood Bath
The goal is to kill a number of enemy units before the other players can.
- Gluttony
Similar to Blood Bath, but now the goal is to collect a certain amount of plastic and electricity.
- Regicide
Instead of heroes each player spawns with Blintz and must destroy all enemy Blintz in order to win.
- Spawn
Each team begins with the bootcamp and heroes to defend with. Every 60 seconds the camp is replenished with new units. The goal is to destroy enemy camps and save your own.
- Assault!
- Units
Following new units has been added:- Flamethrower
According to unused/left over data it may have been a cut unit from early development. The Flamethrower's stats are based on Scorch. In addition, it deals splash damage, which is effective against infantry. (Scorch also has splash damage now.)
- Chinook
Another cut-out unit, now with a special ability to transport infantry. Chinook can be called by the Radio Operator. It has a capacity of 12 seats. To use Chinook you must select the required infantry units and then click on Chinook. To unload passengers use the 'L' key and select the place where you want to drop them.
- Flag
According to pre-release screenshots, it assumed to be buildable unit. With a large seeing range Flags can be used as terrain markers.
- Flag Capturer
Special unit with cloaking ability making it the perfect spy.
- Ammo Crates
Used for restoring ammunition and healing units. It is explosive so be careful!
- Jerry Cans and Drums
Self-destructable props which could be used as a weapon against enemy buildings.
